The Institute of Medical Informatics at UMIT is part of the University for Health Sciences, Medical Informatics and Technology. It exists since 2001. We are conducting research and education in the area of health informatics and health information management.

Scientific analysis, design and evaluation of socio-technical health information systems for up-to-date, accurate and complete patient- and health-related information, supporting high-quality healthcare processes.
Our research areas:
Evidence-based Health Informatics
Development and assessment of quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods for health information systems and health information technology (health IT). Development of guidelines and standards for the evaluation of health IT on a European level. Conduction of systematic reviews and meta-analysis on the impact on health IT. Development of taxonomies for health IT interventions. Conduction of health IT evaluation studies.
Clinical Data Warehousing, Analytics and Data Science
Development and implementation of concepts leveraging reuse of personal health and routine care data for process, quality, knowledge and risk management, medical and care path management, cost control, efficiency and impact analysis. Development and monitoring of guidelines and standards. Design and construction of integrated clinical and health data repositories. Development, testing and evaluation of novel analysis approaches and techniques.
Learning analytics
Analysis of learning processes in online-based learning environments, analysis of interaction and cooperation between students and between student and teacher, visualization of learning interaction networks, development of learning process and learning outcome dashboards, development of indicators for learning process and learning outcome.
